My Journey of Dreams, Detours & Deep Connections – now on Josh Talks

I got the opportunity through Supriya Paul founder, Josh Talks to share my story in under 20 minutes, a chance to reflect on a journey that’s been full of learning, unlearning, and heartfelt connections.

At 67, after over 40 years of working, learning, and growing, I still feel like a student, curious, open, and grateful for every experience that’s shaped me.

Here’s a glimpse of what I shared in the talk, through key phases of my journey:

Parents – My foundation. They gave me the values of gratitude, humility, hard work, frugality, aspiration, and the courage to follow my dreams.

Escorts Kubota Limited (8 years) – My first workplace family. I learnt the importance of being a team player, using gamification to inspire others, and earning trust and respect. These were my early days of building lasting bonds—where colleagues became dosts, and I began to understand the power of gratitude in every relationship. I also began thinking with an owner’s mindset, going well beyond my job description.

Ranbaxy (4 years) – A phase of self-discovery and resilience. I learnt to trust my gut instincts, believe in my self-worth, and balance data with intuition. Empowering teams and enjoying the process became key.

Hero Group India (25 years) – A place that became home. I learnt that life is more than numbers—it’s about relationships, discipline, moonshot thinking, and treating everyone like family.

Sarcha Advisors (last 6 years) – My second innings. I’ve invested in 60+ startups, met over 500 founders, and continued learning as a student of psychology, philosophy, and digital technology. Recognition from Forbes India and Fortune India as a top angel investor has been humbling, but it’s the human connections that mean the most.

DilSeDost – My second startup, in the form of a book. Written from the heart, it’s my way of repaying my Rishi Rin (debt of knowledge) and aiming to touch a million lives with stories, not strategies.

Most of the learnings from childhood to writing this book have stayed with me. And I’ve truly enjoyed the journey.

With deep gratitude to my parents, nani, my wife Poonam, my children, gurus and dosts , the many founders I’ve walked with, and countless well-wishers who’ve shaped and supported me along the way. Most importantly Maa Durga
